The Story of Dragonfly

Dragonflies are ancient and diverse, with nearly six thousand varieties alive today. In every culture, the dragonfly is looked upon as a creature of wonder, beauty, and inspiration. They can fly–or hover–in all directions, reaching amazing speeds with their relatively slow but incredibly powerful wings. In every wingstroke, a dragonfly moves with 20 times more power than most other insects. The dragonfly spends most of her life as a nymph but when she finally gets wings, she makes the most of them, dazzling us with her iridescence, her versatility, her gentle, poised grace.

In every creative venture–whether it’s starting a new business, daring to make art or to write that novel, or simply daring to love one another–we can live like dragonflies, beautifully, powerfully, slowly, making the most of each moment even amid the dramatic changes that life usually holds for each of us. The idea for Dragonfly Dry Goods came to Alison one weekend in 1998 and opened just six weeks later. Today it is Montana’s largest specialty store, a place where people come to find the beautiful and the unusual, and to be inspired to see their own dreams go from idea to reality.
